June 14, 2006 -- MiamiGirl of TheNewMiamian.com had a hard time adjusting to her move to Miami.
Frustrated by her experience and the lack of non-glossy information out there for newcomers, she decided to chronicle her experiences in a blog appropriately named TheNewMiamian.com.
It started off as a simple idea to journal my living in Miami experiences.
Every day I started receiving visitor feedback and questions from people looking to move to Miami, from all over the US and in Europe too.
I guess I was taken by surprise by its popularity but now I see how important The NewMiamian.com is for people looking for realistic Miami information.
It has a great community feel and the comment section is wonderful at giving useful and interesting advice. Her categories are arranged by topics like, Ask a Local Miamian, Miami Humor, Pet Adoptions in Miami, Miami Neighborhoods and she also has a regularly updated photo section that contains beautiful photographs of Miami and its people.
MiamiGirl says, The sky is the limit for this blog and I have many great plans for it&the people who write in with questions keep me on my toes, now I only wish I could get by with three hours of sleep per day.
She also has on off Miami category titled The Rednecks and Me, she says it provides her with an outlet to talk about her crazy Southern family.
Its also a very popular area and I think people like it because it gives them a good feel for my true personality.
The future is bright for this New Miamian and when asked about how she feels about Miami now, she replies smiling, I love this city and all its craziness.
When I drive across any of the bridges back and forth to the beach, I just sigh and think finally I am home. You can read MiamiGirls blog with new entries almost very day at http://www.thenewmiamian.comContact:Jamey PrezziTheNewMiamian.comMiami, FloridaPhone: 305-793-8965http://www.thenewmiamian.com.
A Brief History of Hawaiian Shirts
Bright in color and full of vivid design, Hawaiian shirts are an immensely popular way to introduce yourself - and your clothing - at parties, the pool or the beach. They have become an international symbol of Hawaii. Although they continue to increase in popularity, Hawaiian shirts are not a new trend or fad. In fact, the design of the popular shirts has been around for decades.
Hawaiian shirts got their start in the 1930s, when clothing manufacturers on the islands decided to produce a cloth that had a design unique to Hawaii. Watumull's East India Store led the pack by hiring artist Elsie Das to create 15 hand-painted floral designs that were then printed onto silk.
Unfortunately for the store, the designs were not supposed to be printed on heavy silk. Although the manufacturer did not print the shirts as had been requested, it turned out for the best - the heavy silk shirts became extremely popular in Hollywood. Movie stars, singers, and politicians all donned...
